Rivers, Roads, and Salmon: A Conversation About the Future of the Susitna Watershed
The Susitna River is one of Alaska’s great wild rivers, flowing over 300-miles from the Alaska Range toward Cook Inlet through a watershed rich with salmon, wildlife, wetlands, public lands, and remote communities. But like many watersheds across Alaska, the Susitna is facing major decisions about roads, dams, mining access, energy development, forestry, and public investment.
In this evening conversation, Melis Coady of the Susitna River Coalition will introduce participants to the river, the communities connected to it, and the infrastructure proposals now shaping its future. The discussion will offer helpful background for visitors new to Alaska while leaving plenty of room for questions about salmon, public lands, development pressure, and what responsible stewardship can look like in a rapidly changing political and environmental landscape.
