July 4 – July 10 – Play-When-You-Like (unlimited teams!)
Saturday, July 11 – Traditional (limited to NINE teams – SOLD OUT)
As with many things in 2020, we’re mixing things up to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Our traditional in-person tournament on July 11 is limited to nine teams of four for the 9-hole scramble.
In order to accommodate as many golfers as possible (we know you’re out there!), we are introducing Play-When-You-Like for a week starting July 4 through July 10. Dress crazy, take photos, play golf, drink libations, swap stories of remembrance, and tally your score. Play-When-You-Like teams are encouraged to join us at the Black Diamond Golf Course on the day of the Traditional tournament on Saturday, July 11, to participate in the longest drive, closest to the pin, and end-of-tournament prize ceremony.
We are encouraging players to bring face masks for times when 6′ physical distance is not easy (or desired), possibly during the end-of-tournament prize ceremony. We will have plenty of hand sanitizer available. We appreciate everyone being conscientious and respectful when it comes to COVID-19 mitigation efforts and minimizing the possibility of spreading the virus!

How it Works
Play-When-You-Like
Once you’ve registered your team, we will send you a confirmation email that you can present to the Black Diamond Golf Course any day, any time between July 4 – July 10 to play your 9-hole scramble. Mulligans are available when you register (limit 2 per player).
Send us your score and photos of your team in action! On Saturday, July 11, we welcome all Play-When-You-Like teams to take their best shot at the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin holes (no mulligans allowed). Scores from the week will be tallied on Saturday to determine the winners! Photos of team costumes will put you in the running for great prizes!

Tournament Rules
- RESPECT THE COURSE including but not limited to: the greens, the vegetation, clubs, carts, and other players in the tournament.
- DRIVE SLOW AT ALL TIMES and with respect to others around you.
- NO CONSUMPTION OF OUTSIDE ALCOHOL Please purchase at the restaurant or from the beer cart, if available.
This tournament is a SCRAMBLE: Best Hit Ball determines score; 2 Mulligans per player
Best Hit Ball: Each player tees off. Of the four shots, choose the best hit ball to continue play from. All team members then take their second shot from that spot and again choose the best hit ball to take their next shot from. Repeat this process until the ball is holed. Each Best Hit Ball equals one stroke towards the team’s score for that hole. (NOTE: Do not ‘tap’ in a putt until all team members have had the opportunity to put. Once the ball is holed, the round is over and the opportunity for others to make the putt is lost)
$5 Mulligans: Can be used on any hole, except in the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin competitions. No more than one (1) Mulligan may be used per person, per hole. Mulligans are transferable at the owner’s discretion.
Let’s have a fun and safe tournament! We will encourage teams to maintain physical distance from each other when possible, and for all players and spectators to bring a mask to the end-of-tournament ceremony!
About the Healy Tundra Challenge Golf Tournament
Scott Menke was a young man with a bright future whose brief life touched the hearts of our community. Scott cared deeply for his friends, his family, and for himself, showing us that it’s okay to believe in yourself, to push yourself, and not be afraid to find joy in life. He cared for his community, a love that continues as we celebrate during the golf tournament. In the 16 years since his passing, we have honored Scott by giving to his community, just as he continues to give to our community.
Scott avidly participated in Denali Discovery Camp and championed the creation of Denali Backcountry Adventures for high school students. In 2004, the Denali Education Center and Scott’s family created the Scott Menke Memorial Fund from a desire to raise money for the youth programs Scott loved.
The Scott Menke Memorial Fund helps support all of Denali Education Center’s youth initiatives and is used for direct camp costs like food, gear, and transportation. Additionally, the fund awards $5,000 to three graduating seniors in the Denali Borough through the Scott Menke Summit Scholarship. Since its inception, Scott’s memory has given over 100 students full scholarships to our camps and expeditions, and awarded over $40,000 in scholarships towards post-secondary education to over 20 Denali Borough graduates. Just as Scott changed the lives of his peers; we honor those who seek to do the same.
Working together, we inspire future generations to embody the beautiful spirit Scott shared with us.
