Happy New Year from the Denali Education Center!

    Blue_Moon

We are excited to welcome in the year 2010!  With many new program offerings and exciting events lined up, we're poised for a banner 21st year.  Exploritas is the new program name for Elderhostel, combining the Latin word for truth, "veritas," with the word "explore." Exploritas is the beginning of a new generation of residential programs on our campus.  See below for more information or click the "Exploritas Programs" tab on the left.

    Elderhostel undergoes a big change!

Exploritas_LogoExploritas (the combination of the words "explore" & "veritas" meaning "truth" in Latin) is the new name for the programs of Elderhostel Inc., the Boston-based not-for-profit organization that seeks to provide lifelong learning and travel opportunities for adults.

Denali Education Center has been a program provider of Elderhostel programs for 20 years here in Denali.  After undergoing a name change ourselves a couple of years ago, we understand how challenging it will be to remember this new name but look forward to the opportunities that this rebranding will bring as the age restrictions for travelers has also been relaxed and will now include travelers over the age of 21.  We look forward to serving travelers of all ages who are seeking opportunities in lifelong learning.

Please check our offerings for Exploritas programs by clicking here or using the gray button on the upper left side of this screen.  New for 2010 are a Spring bird migration program, an Active program that includes rafting as well as hiking opportunities, an updated Kantishna experience (currently sold out), and a program focusing on photography in Autumn

    From the Email Inbox:Boggy_Bayou

"I enjoy hearing about Denali- its community, its beauty, and its learning opportunities.  As much as I love my Florida home on Boggy Bayou in the northwest panhandle area, I fell in love with Alaska during my 2005 and 2006 trips. We are both blessed to live in places where we can hear and see nature.  Please know that many of us appreciate all that the Center does to bring education and joy to so many.  The Center's work has to result in a world with greater awareness and contentment. Take care and know that this native Floridian's life has been forever touched by Alaska- its beauty and its people."

    Red_squirrel

The white spruce cone crop does not look terribly impressive this year but none-the-less, the red tree squirrel is actively cutting the unopened green cones from the upper branches of the trees.  To extract and eat the seeds, they hold each cone in the forepaws and rotate it rapidly while chewing and cone scales flying in all directions. ...To read more, click here!
